Blackberry Support: Minimum Requirements

Because of the restrictive nature of the Blackberry platform, there are certain prerequisites which must be in place to allow Buto video playback.

1. Direct connection to the internet by WiFi (or 3G)

Blackberry internet connections are routed through Blackberry Enterprise Servers (BES) and these typically restrict the download of video files, and files above a certain size. If you are seeing ‘Request Entity too large’, then the BES administrator has disallowed large objects (or, any video files) from being downloaded.

2. Wi-Fi Browser (sometimes called the HotSpot Browser)

The “HotSpot” Browser bypasses the BES and connects you directly to the internet. This is often required to allow video files to play.

3. Javascript Support and IFRAME embed

Our IFRAME embed code needs to use client-side Javascript to determine Blackberry and serve the appropriate video. This is enabled by default on most handsets, but your IT teams may have chosen to disable it.

If Javascript is not enabled, there will be a black space where the Buto video thumbnail should be.

Videos embedded with our older, OBJECT or EMBED methods will not playback on Blackberry.

4. Operating system 5 or above

Blackberry OS 6 is available, and either OS 5.x or 6.x are required to support the video codecs that Buto delivers in (H.264 in a 3GP container).
