Statistics and Analytics

What kind of statistics can I see?

Buto’s reporting is fast and accurate, logging when each video is watched, clicked or shared. You will be able to see a wide range of statistics from view counts, duration watched graphs and social media sharing – through to every page on every site where your player is embedded.

Click Statistics in your control panel to view and export this data.

Why are there some “Unknown” and some “Embed.Buto” entries in my “Views per host site” report?

This part of our reporting relies on browsers sending back some data to us.

Some browsers (or corporate firewalls) don’t send the URL at all, in which case they will show as unknown, and you might see that some people visit e.g. http://company.com and others http://www.company.com – these are technically different sites, even though they will probably be the same page, so these are reported separately.

However some browsers will send the “embed.buto” URL back, in which case there is no way of knowing the ‘parent’ page which requested the video.

How accurate is the geographic reporting?

Pretty accurate! We look up the viewer’s IP address against a global database of locations. Obviously, people or networks deliberately hiding or ‘spoofing’ their IP address will be mis-located.

If their IP is correct, then it can often be as accurate as a few hundred metres.

How do I remove our own traffic from the reports?

If you know your company’s external IP address (or series of addresses) then you can enter it in the “Filter by IP addresses” field on the lower left hand side of statistics screens.

This will be saved and your own traffic removed from all your reports. You can always remove the IP and see all the statistics once again.
