Player controls and features

Is it possible to disable commenting on my videos?

Yes. Each video has an associated ‘player settings’. You will have been provided with a default player settings file at the point your account was created – if you haven’t created any more since then, this one will be being used by all your videos.

Click on the ‘Videos’ tab in your control panel and then on ‘Player settings’ in the left-hand menu you will see a list of them (possibly just one). If you then hover over it and click on the ‘Edit’ button you should see a pop-up panel with all of its current settings. If you uncheck the box for ‘comments enabled’ and then save the changes, now commenting will no longer be possible on any of the videos that use that settings file.

Is it possible to moderate comments before they appear?

It can be a good idea to moderate comments, and you can easily do this. If you make sure the box for ‘Moderate comments’ is checked in that settings file, when a comment comes in you will need to approve it before it appears to video viewers. You can also edit or simply delete the comment. This is all done using the ‘Comments’ tab in your control panel – here you can see pending, denied and approved comments.

Can I have some videos with comments and some without?

Yes. Setting some videos to allow comments and some not is slightly more involved but all you need to do is create two (or more) player settings files. Edit one so comments are enabled, and the other so they are not. Then simply choose which settings file you would like to apply to a video. You can choose in the drop-down menu on each video ‘details’ page which is used.

How do I enable or disable the ‘Sharing’ control in the player?

If you click on the ‘Videos’ tab in your control panel, you will see a list down the left-hand side of Videos, Player Settings, Player Themes, If you click on ‘Player settings’ it will show you all of the player settings files you currently have in your account. If you now edit by clicking on the ‘Edit’ button that appears when you hover over it, you should see a checkbox for ‘sharing’ in the left-hand column of that panel. If you then save the changes, go back to your video and refresh it, the sharing icon will show or hide as you’ve chosen.

What is Pre-buffering and why would I turn it off?

Pre-buffering is an option (which is on by default) in your settings files. If a player is set to pre-buffer, then it will load all the video data as soon as it appears on a page. This means that when your viewer presses ‘play’ – the video is ready to go. For most sites this is the best option.

However, if you place video on a page with a lot of traffic and not many visitors actually play the clip: you could find that you’re using a lot of data. By turning pre-buffering off you save data usage, but viewers get a slightly slower experience as the video buffers before playback.
