We’re pleased to announce that our new Flash player is available right now to all users, here’s what’s new:
1. Seek anywhere
Buto is still ‘progressive download’, but now your viewers can click the timeline and seek anywhere in the video, regardless of how much video has loaded into the player.
For content owners, it means that your viewers need not wait for the whole video to load to jump to the part they want to watch.
2. Better accessibility
We’ve worked on the accessibility of our player, improving labelling and tab order.
We’ve also made the controls ‘fix’ when the player is tabbed, so you won’t lose the controls if you’re not using a mouse – they’ll remain visible for you to navigate.
3. Neater player at small embed sizes
Some of our users want to embed the Buto player at sizes smaller than 400px across. This was fine, but it meant that controls that worked at larger sizes became unusable.
This update fixes this by showing only a minimal set of controls when you embed the player at 325px and smaller.
4. Improved performance and stability
The player is the part of the system most people see most often: we serve thousands every hour of every day, so it needs to work well. We’ve taken reports from users all over the world to improve and fix minor bugs across the player.
We hope you enjoy watching video in the updated Buto player.
